Author Nevien Shabbneh

Happy Friday everyone! Two weeks into the new year and hopefully everyone is enjoying it so far!

For the feature today, we have someone that I have admired for years. I was honored when she agreed to be a guest, this week we have the incredible Nevien Shabbneh!

Nevien graduated with a bachelors degree in English education from The University Of Illinois At Chicago. She then proceeded to obtain her Masters of Arts from Saint Xavier University.

Shabbneh is the author of the gripping novel Secrets Under The Olive Tree. The novel was released in August of 2014, and has been growing a large fan-base since then.

The book is about a young girl named Layla Anwar, who always felt like an outsider in her family, and as she aged she discovers many secrets that reveal she is not who she thought she was.

Back in high school, this book was one my friends and I could not put down. With captivating twists and turns, you’re bound to be hooked from the get go.

Shabbneh is also an English teacher, who has been teaching for over a decade.

During our conversation, Shabbneh talks about the importance of accepting people as the way they want to be, not what you may assume. This was something that really stuck out to me because this blog is all about accepting others for who they are, and loving diversity within, and externally.

Nevien also talks about an instance when a fan of the novel reached out to her telling her about how the book felt so realistic. “I would have thought you were there.”

You can catch the author at an upcoming event this month at the 19th annual San Diego Writer’s Conference.

Nevien is working on her next novel, that she just completed editing. She is looking forward to releasing it, but does not have a date at this time.

As a fan of Neiven’s, I can’t wait to read her next novel! Everyone should definitely take some time out to read her amazing book, you will not regret it!
